Several months ago we set out to hire a top up and coming AI researcher to lead AI Research here at Neurometric. Today I’m happy to announce that search is over and Yash Sharma has joined us a our Senior Director of AI Research.
Early hires in a startup are always really difficult to get right. When it comes to AI they can be particularly difficult because its a field where there is still so much important research to be done and it is still a very academic field, but that has to be balanced with progress that is relevant to the company because startups need to show results. We are also focused on areas that most of the major AI labs are paying less attention to, like Small Language Models for specific tasks, inference optimization via model ensembles and test time compute, and more real world work focused data sets.
All of these factors seemed to make Yash the right fit. Yash recently finished a PhD at the Max Plank Institute, and has expertise in model generalization and much more. He has a deep entrepreneurial streak for an academic, and has both the core research skills and team management skills to help scale a startup. You can see the full scope of his research here.
Yash will soon start hiring for his team to expand our AI research capabilities, so if you are interested in SLMs, test time compute, model generalization, or related topics, please reach out.
